Freshman pitcher Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) tossed a three-hit complete game against Wagner to earn the Akadema Northeast Conference co-pitcher of the week and rookie of the week awards. The right-hander shut out the Seahawks in Sunday’s finale to secure a third straight NEC series victory for Sacred Heart.
The rookie hurler threw 9.0 innings of solid baseball to pick up his fourth win of 2010 and send his team to a 5-0 road win in Staten Island, NY. Scribner set down the first 13 Seahawks he faced before a fifth-inning bunt single broke up his bid for a perfect game. He allowed no extra-base hits and prevented Wagner from moving a runner to third base over the first 8.2 frames. Scribner struck out four batters, walked two, and tossed six 1-2-3 innings.
The Pioneers have now won 10 of their last 13 games as they head down the home stretch of the regular season. Sacred Heart hosts Monmouth Thursday at 10:00 am to kickoff their final home series of 2010.
