April 27, 2009

FAIRFIELD, CT - Junior Jeff Heppner (Aqubogue, NY) was named the Akadema/Northeast Conference Player of the Week today after helping the Sacred Heart baseball team take two out of three games against NEC rival Monmouth over the weekend.

Heppner hit .500 (9-18) in a 3-2 week for the Pioneers. The transfer from Vermont had two doubles, two homers, eight runs batted in and six runs scored in five games.

He had a two-run blast in Friday's 19-11 win, and hit another two-run shot on Sunday at the Pioneer blew out the Hawks 15-6. He was 5-8 with four RBI to help the Pioneers to a doubleheader split on Saturday.

Heppner leads the Pioneers with ten homers this season, and leads the entire Northeast Conference with 47 RBI, while hitting a cool .361. He needs four more RBI to tie the single-season record of 51 set by Bill Packer in 1982.
