FAIRFIELD, CT - Senior Jeff Hanson (Woodstock, NY) was named the Akadema/Northeast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the second straight time today, after helping the Pioneers to a pair of wins in Florida over the weekend.
Hanson extended his home run streak to a school-record five games by launching two key long balls in a pair of Sacred Heart victories. The senior first baseman batted. 571 (4-for-7) with four RBI and slugged 1.250 in the team's only two contests last week. His first of two two-run homers provided the difference in the Pioneers' 5-3 win over Central Michigan in Winter Haven, FL.
Hanson capped a 3-for-3 day by when he broke a 3-3 seventh-inning tie with his shot to left. The right-handed run producer's second homer of the week staked Sacred Heart to a 3-1 lead in an eventual 4-3 win over Connecticut. The Huskies took the bat put of Hanson's hands by intentionally walking him with two on in the decisive ninth inning.
Through the first five games of the season he is hitting a crisp .632 (12-19) with five homers and 17 RBI.
