STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Sacred Heart baseball team saw its chances to make the Northeast Conference Tournament fade away on Friday afternoon, dropping a vital doubleheader to St. Francis College. The Terriers were victorious in game one,8-6, and held on to defeat the Pioneers in the nightcap 3-2.
In game one, the Terriers got on the board in the first inning, scoring two runs. A single from Greg Clements started things off for St. Francis, he stole second, and then scored off a Joe DeSiena double to left field. Designated hitter Tom Curry nailed a double off the leftfield wall that scored DeSiena.
St. Francis added on another run in the bottom of the second to take a 3-0 lead. Tom Greene led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Greene scored of a single to right field off the bat of freshman Brian Forman.
Sacred Heart countered in the top of the third, tying the game 3-3. Two consecutive singles from Sean Kammerer and Jason Maiella placed Pioneer runners on first and third and then a single from Greg Delmonico scored both players. A fielder's choice from Curtis Lewsey scored Delmonico for the third run of the inning.
A solo homerun from Anthony Diaz in the top of the fourth gave Sacred Heart their first lead of the game, 4-3.
The Terriers countered in the bottom of the fourth to score four runs and take a 7-4 lead. Curry hit a lead off double down the left field line and advanced to third on a Greene single. A single to center from Jared Mimozo scored Curry and then a single from Forman scored Greene. A fielder's choice from Greg Clements allowed Mimozo to score and a single from Anthony Giudice scored Clements.

In the top of the fifth, Jason Maiella reached base after getting hit by a pitch. Maiella scored on a single off the bat of Lewsey. St. Francis scored one of their own in the fifth. Curry reached on a lead off double and then scored on a Mimozo sacrifice fly to left field.
In the top of the seventh, Sacred Heart, trailing 8-5, had runners in scoring position, but was only able to score one, Jamie Schilkowski, on a Anthony Diaz sacrifice fly.
Freshman Brian Honeyman picked up the win for the Terriers and Paul Lepore earned the save. For Sacred Heart, Adam Dinihanian was charged with the loss - just his second of the season.
In game two, the Terriers again took an early lead, scoring one run in the first and second innings. In the first, the Terriers loaded the bases on two walks and a single and then scored after Lluberes was hit by a pitch. Terrier freshman Jared Mimozo struck a triple to right center field and then scored on a Forman sacrifice fly.
In the top of the third, the Pioneers tied the game 2-2 after Greg Delmonico smashed a two-run homer over the left field wall.
The Terriers took a lead they would not relinquish in the bottom of the fifth. Jared Mimozo hit a lead off single, advanced to second on a Forman hit, and then scored off a single from first baseman DeSiena.
Tom Curry pitched a complete game for St. Francis in the win. Rob Duell received the loss for the Pioneers.
