TRUMBULL, CT - Sophomore first baseman Tommy Meade had a pair of hits and three RBI to help the Central Connecticut State baseball team defeat Sacred Heart 8-3 and complete a Northeast Conference doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon.

Central took an early 1-0 lead against SHU starter Jared Balbach when Sean Allaire led off the game with a bunt single, went to second on a grounder, third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jak Kidd.

In the bottom of the frame JJ Edwards reached on an error by CCSU shortstop Anthony Scialdone. Tyler Santos followed with a single to left and Ryan Lynch made the error hurt when he launched his second homer of the season over the centerfield fence to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead. All three of the runs were unearned.

The Blue Devils scored three times on four hits in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Casey Walko drove in a pair to tie the score with a double off the top of the centerfield fence. Tommy Meade gave his team the lead with a single to center to play Walko.

Meade helped Central extend the lead to 5-3 in the top of the fifth when a grounder scored Kidd from third. Kidd led off the inning and was hit by reliever Mick Oswald. He stole second and went to third on a grounder by Pat Epps.

CCSU broke it open in the seventh, scoring three more times to make it 8-3. Meade drove in another with a single, and Kyle Zarotney plated two more with a double to right.

Central starter John Tesseyman allowed just five Pioneer hits and notched his fifth complete game of the season and improved to 6-3. He struck out three without walking a batter.
