Baseball Wins Fifth Straight - Takes Down FDU, 15-2

TEANECK, NJ - Senior Steve Tedesco (Mission Viejo, CA) had a pair of hits and four RBI, including a two-run homer in the first innings, as the Sacred Heart baseball team won its fifth straight by defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 15-2 on Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers, now 19-20 overall and 10-7 in the Northeast Conference, got another strong start from senior Chris Zaccherio. Zaccherio moved his record to 5-3 with eight solid innings. He struck out ten and walked three.
Senior Mike Drowne (S. Hadley, MA) led off the game with a single and promptly stole second. He is now a perfect 27-27 in thefts this season. Tedesco followed with his blast to left center, his third homer of the year. A walk to Jeff Heppner (Aqubogue, NY) and a single by Rob Griffith (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) put two on with one out in frame, before JJ Edwards singled in the third run of the inning. Hunter Phillips (Monroe, CT) singled home a pair of runs two batters later to make it 5-0.
FDU, 9-28 and 4-13, got single runs in the second and third to make it 5-2, but the Pioneers exploded for five more runs in the sixth to break it open. Freshman John Murphy (Seymour, CT) had the big blast in the inning with a grand slam homer, his third round tripper of the year.
The two teams will square off in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
