TEANECK, NJ - Senior right hander Adam Dinihanian (Stratford, CT) struck out 10 and allowed just one earned run in a complete game victory as visiting Sacred Heart handed Fairleigh Dickinson a 6-3 defeat in Northeast Conference (NEC) baseball action on Wednesday afternoon. The Knights drop to 11-20 overall and 10-7 in NEC play, while the Pioneers improve to 7-31 overall and 5-10 in the league.
Sacred Heart jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Third baseman Jason Maiella (North Haledon, NJ) led off with a double and after a pair of outs, Knights' starter Brian Bunyan (Belle Harbor, NY) walked right fielder Curtis Lewsey (Greenwich, NY). Left fielder Jay Monti (Marlboro, NY) followed with a single to right center, plating Maiella.
The Knights got the run back in the bottom of the first as second baseman Mike Knorr (Staten Island, NY) got things going with a one-out single to center field. He advanced to second on a ground out and then scored on an infield error to tie the game.
The Pioneers came right back in the second inning, as shortstop Tim Lantz (New Rochelle, NY) reached on an error and advanced to second on the play. After he moved over on a sacrifice bunt, Maiella drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center field. The Pioneers went on to add another run in the inning on a run-scoring double off the bat of Jamie Schilkowski (Shelton, CT).
First baseman Ben Cass (Warwick, NY) led off the bottom of the frame for the Knights with a
single to left field and two batters later shortstop Brian Boucher (Morristown, NJ) reached on another Pioneer error. Third baseman Joe Munda (Glen Head, NY) followed with a double to bring in one run and a run-scoring ground out by center fielder Chris Grabowski (Brooklyn, NY) tied the game at 3-3.

The scoring continued in the third inning for the Pioneers as they pushed across two more on a single by second baseman Greg Delmonico (Brewster, NY) to take a 5-3 lead.
That would be all Sacred Heart needed as Dinihanian shut the Knights down from there, allowing just one runner past second base for the remainder of the game and the Pioneers tacked on another run in the seventh for the final score of 6-3.
Dinihanian scattered eight hits and walked only one as he improved to 4-1 on the year. Delmonico finished the game 2-for-4 for the Pioneers and Schilkowski went 2-for-5.
