BRIDGEPORT, CT - Sacred Heart broke the scoring ice in the second inning when Kammerer blasted his solo homer to left field with two outs off Mount starter Dustin Pease. The Pioneers made it 2-0 in the third on a ground ball by Jamie Schilkowski.
SHU extended its lead to 3-0 with another run in the fourth. Jay Monti led off the inning with a double down the left field line and Tim Lantz sacrificed him to third. Sophomore Dave Kaloyanides drove home the run with a bloop single over a drawn-in infield.
Mount St. Mary's, 17-11 overall and 4-8 in the NEC, got its lone run of the game off Ristano in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Daniel Fowler. The fly scored Jim Jefferson who had singled with one out and gone to third on a double by catcher Adam Schenloff.
Senior Burt Stormes led off the seventh for the Mount by drawing a walk, but Ristano then struck out the next two hitters and got pinch hitter Chad Wolfe to ground to second to end the game.
Ristano allowed just four hits in the complete-game performance, striking out five and walking just one to earn his first win of the season.
