BRIDGEPORT, CT - Quinnipiac got back-to-back homers in a ten-run fourth inning by Tim Binkoski (North Haven, CT) and Randy Gress (Shelton, CT) and freshman hurler Andy Mayer (Trumbull, CT) tossed his first complete game of the season to lead the Bobcats to a 17-1 win over Sacred Heart University in a Northeast Conference baseball game Monday afternoon.
Quinnipiac, 11-13-1 overall and 6-3 in the NEC, tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by John Delaney that scored Peter Kummerfeldt, who had led off the inning with a walk.
The Bobcats chased SHU starter Jeff Hanson (Woodstock, NY) in the fourth when four of the five batters he faced in the inning walked. He would be charged with five runs in 3 1/3 innings. The homers were hit off Pioneer reliever Chris Howard (Ghent, NY).
The Pioneers, 13-15 overall and also 6-3 in the NEC, got their lone run in the second inning on an RBI single by Jason Maiella (N. Haledon., NJ) that scored Josh Enos (Paulsboro, NJ), who had singled.
Mayer, who raised his record to 4-2 with the win, allowed seven hits in his outing, striking out three and walking just one.
