Baseball Loses to Bridgeport in Ten, 6-4

BRIDGEPORT, CT - Sophomore Chris Cadrin (Milford, CT) had three hits, including a game-winning three-run double in the tenth to lead the University of Bridgeport baseball team to a 6-4 win over Sacred Heart University on Wednesday afternoon.

Bridgeport, now 7-8, took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Cadrin singled with one out and went to second on a single by Dennis Hine. He scored from second on a pair of wild pitches by SHU starter Mike Milazzo.

The Purple Knights made it 2-0 in the third thanks to a Milazzo error. Chris Petroski led off the inning with a single. Milazzo got the next two UB hitters but Petroski stole second base. He went to third on an infield hit by Gerri Sanchez. Milazzo picked Sanchez off first base, but threw the ball into right field trying to make the throw to second, allowing Petroski to score.

Christian Chung gave UB a 3-0 lead in the top of the sixth when he scored on a double play grounder by Anthony Cardazone.

The Pioneers finally got on the board in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Curtis Lewsey off Bridgeport reliever Ryan Balis (Milford, CT). Balis stranded two SHU runners in scoring position when he got Josh Enos to pop out to second to end the inning.

Sacred Heart, 2-21, tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, rallying with two outs. Dave Kaloyanides walked with two down and stole second. Jason Maiella doubled to deep right to bring the Pioneers within one. Greg Delmonico hit a slow roller to short for a single and the throw to first got away, allowing the tying run to score.

Bridgeport used the bases-loaded double by Cadrin in the top of the tenth to take a 6-3 lead. Pioneer reliever Rob Tenzca got himself into the jam by walking the first two batters of the inning.

The Pioneers got one back in the bottom of the inning off Balis on an RBI single by Kaloyanides, but Jason Maiella flew out to deep left to end the game.
