NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Senior Curtis Lewsey (Greenwich, NY) had a pair of hits and two RBI and junior Mike Milazzo picked up his first win of the season on the hill as the Sacred Heart baseball team defeated Iona College 6-4 on Thursday afternoon.
Sacred Heart, now 4-15, used a five-run first inning as the catalyst for the win. Lewsey, Dan Garcia, Josh Enos and Tony Diaz each knocked home runs in the inning off Iona starter Shane Sveda.
Milazzo made the start for the Pioneers and went the first five innings, allowing four hits and two unearned runs.
Iona got single runs off sophomore reliever George Lamar in the sixth and seventh to get within a pair. Sophomore transfer Chris Howard pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Pioneers. Sophomore Rob Tenzca, who played most of the game at first base, pitched the final two-thirds of an inning to earn his first save.
The win was the third straight for the Pioneers, who are scheduled for a three-game series against Monmouth University this weekend.
