Baseball Clipped by UConn in Home Opener

BRIDGEPORT, CT - Sophomore George Springer had a pair of hits, including his fourth homer of the season, and drove in five to help the University of Connecticut spoil Sacred Heart's home baseball opener Friday, 15-3.
Junior lefty Elliot Glynn held the Pioneers to just four hits over seven strong innings on the hill, allowing just a pair of unearned runs, to lift his season record to 2-1.
Senior Jared Balbach (Pine Bush, NY) took the loss for the Pioneers and fell to 2-1, working the first five innings.
Seniors Steve Tedesco (Mission Viejo, CA) and Jeff Heppner (Aqubogue, NY) each had two hits to account for four of the five Pioneer safties. Heppner hit his second homer of the, a solo shot leading off the ninth off UConn reliever Stephen Catalina.
The Huskies improved to 9-4 this season, while the Pioneers fell to 3-7. The two teams will square off in Storrs tomorrow at 1 p.m.
