WINTER HAVEN, FL - The Sacred Heart University bats were held to just to hits by Bowling Green pitching Thursday, wasting a seven-inning outing by senior Chris Barthel (Northford, CT) as the Falcons defeated the Pioneers 1-0 in a spring trip game in Florida.

Bowling Green, 3-8, scored the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by David Borcherdt that scored Logan Meisler who had singled and gone to third on a one-out double by Tyler Elkins.

The two Pioneer hits came from senior Phil Tantillo (Blue Point, NY) in the third and junior Mike Drowne (South Hadley, MA) in the ninth. SHU never got a runner past second base.

Barthel worked the first seven innings. He allowed eight hits, struck out five and didn't issue a walk. Mick Oswald pitched a scoreless eighth.

Brennan Smith went the first eight for the Falcons, allowing one hit and one walk, while striking out ten. Charles Wooten allowed the leadoff single to Drowne and a walk in the ninth, but struck out Tyler Santos and Jeff Hanson to end the game.
