WINTER HAVEN, FL - The Sacred Heart University bats were held to just to hits by Bowling Green pitching Thursday, wasting a seven-inning outing by senior Chris Barthel (Northford, CT) as the Falcons defeated the Pioneers 1-0 in a spring trip game in Florida.
Bowling Green, 3-8, scored the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by David Borcherdt that scored Logan Meisler who had singled and gone to third on a one-out double by Tyler Elkins.
Barthel worked the first seven innings. He allowed eight hits, struck out five and didn't issue a walk. Mick Oswald pitched a scoreless eighth.
Brennan Smith went the first eight for the Falcons, allowing one hit and one walk, while striking out ten. Charles Wooten allowed the leadoff single to Drowne and a walk in the ninth, but struck out Tyler Santos and Jeff Hanson to end the game.
