WINTER HAVEN, CT - The University of Rhode Island baseball team scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to take an 11-10 win and spoiling three-hit evenings for Mike Drowne and Hunter Phillips.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-4, while URI improved to 2-7.
Freshman Dave Boisture drove home Phillips with a triple in the top of the ninth to pull the Pioneers within a run at 10-9. Freshman John Murphy tied the game by driving home Boisture with a sacrifice fly.
The Rams started off the bottom of the ninth with a double off reliever Mike Olszyk on a ball hit in front of outfield Steve Tedesco. Tedesco dove for the ball but couldn't come up with it, allowing the hitter to reach second. A couple of walks loaded the bases and then a single up the middle gave the Rams their second straight win.
The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Winter Haven against Bowling Green. Junior Matt Fitton will make the start for SHU.
