HOMESTEAD, FL - Junior first baseman Jamie Schilkowski (Shelton, CT) had his second consecutive three-hit day, and freshman pitcher Rob McKee (Massapequa, NY) hurled four shutout innings of relief to lead Sacred Heart University to a 9-3 win over Detroit-Mercy on the Pioneer's continuing Florida trip Tuesday afternoon.
Detroit-Mercy, now 1-3, got a pair of runs in the second inning off SHU starter Robert Duell on an RBI single by Mike Mitrevski and a run-scoring double by third baseman Mark Moehlig.
The Pioneers would strike back to tie it at 2-2 in the bottom of the third. Joe Santacroce singled with one out and went to second on a sacrifice bunt. A double by catcher Brian Rojee plated a run, and Rojee scored when Schilkowski followed with a single.
Detroit took the lead back with a run in the fourth on a single by Jamey Embree that scored Moehlig, who had doubled. Detroit starter Joel Donlon breezed easily through the fourth and fifth innings to keep his team ahead 3-2.
Jason Lukasik came in to pitch the sixth for UDM and had control problems. He walked two batters after retiring his first hitter. Curtis Lewsey followed with a double to tie the score at 3-3. Andrew Cutrone then dropped down a perfect squeeze bunt to put the Pioneers ahead when the runner scored from third. Santacroce then singled to make it 5-3 SHU.
Lantz would single home two more runs in the seventh, and Marotta also had an RBI single in the inning to put the game away.
