HAMMOND, LA - Senior Jeff Hanson (Woodstock, NY) had a pair of hits and his third homer on the series at Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday but the Pioneers were routed by the homestanding Lions, 22-4. Hanson finished the series 8-12 with 13 RBI.
Hanson got the Pioneers going in the top of the first with an RBI double. He later scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Santos (Johnson City, NY) to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.
The Lions, 4-3, got to SHU starter Chris Zaccherio (Manhasset, NY) for nine runs in the first inning, five of them unearned because of a fielding error and a pair of passed balls.
The Pioneers closed the gap to 9-4 in the top of the third on a two-run blast by Hanson, but Southeastern Louisiana scored nine runs in the next four innings to put SHU away.
The Pioneers will be off until next Saturday when they take on Central Michigan in Winter Haven, FL at the start of an eight-game swing in the Sunshine State.
