FAIRFIELD, Conn – Freshman Zack Short (Hurley, NY) was named Northeast Conference Baseball Co-Rookie of the Week Monday afternoon after a terrific series over the weekend against Bryant. It is Sacred Heart's seventh NEC weekly honor of the season, and Short's second R.O.W.
After a slow start to the mid-week and weekend, Short exploded in the final three games of the Pioneers four-game split with the Bryant Bulldogs. Short knocked seven hits in Sacred Heart's doubleheader sweep of the first place Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. The standout shortstop went four-for-five in game one, before knocking four RBI, along with three more hits in game two as SHU cruised to 10-6, and 10-3 wins. Short followed up the 7-for-9 performance with one more hit and a RBI in the series finale on Sunday.
Short currently leads the Pioneers with 50 hits, 27 walks, and ranks second on the team with 19 RBI. Playing in all 44 of Sacred Heart's games this season, he is batting .327 with a .432 on-base percentage.
