FAIRFIELD, Conn – Freshman shortstop Zack Short (Hurley, NY) was named NEC Baseball Rookie of the Week Monday afternoon. Short is the fourth Pioneer to earn a weekly honor so far this season and follows freshman Keith Klebart (Orange, CT) who earned the R.O.W award last week.
Short, who is batting a team-high .359, was two-for-four with two runs scored in the Pioneers 10-2 win over St. John's on Saturday afternoon. The freshman scored the Pioneers first run after initiating a two-out walk in the third inning. Short would then come around to score the Pioneers final run of the afternoon after leading off the ninth with a base hit up the middle.
Along with the team-high batting average, Short also currently leads the Pioneers with 23 hits and a .461 on-base percentage.
Short and the rest of the Pioneers will be in action on Wednesday afternoon at Stony Brook.
