Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart baseball alumni softball game is set for this coming Saturday the 21st at 9:30 am. Veterans Field at 555 Madison Avenue in Bridgeport will be the site of the game. Fairfield, CT (August 26, 2013) – Sacred Heart head baseball coach Nick Giaquinto announced the hiring of Alex Trezza as an assistant coach for the 2013-14 season. Trezza joins a coaching staff of Head Coach Giaquinto, assistant coach Wayne Mazzoni and strength and conditioning coach Josh Heenan.

Murphy Named ABCA Third Team All American
Fairfield, CT – Following a sensational 2013 season, the accolades just keep coming for recent Sacred Heart graduate and former SHU Shortstop John Murphy (Seymour, CT). A day after making his minor league debut with the Staten Island Yankees, Murphy was named a American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) third team All-American and made the ABCA All-Northeast First Team. Earlier this month, Murphy was selected by the New York Yankees in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball Draft.

Troy Scribner Signed by the Houston Astros
Fairfield, CT – Recent SHU graduate and Sacred Heart baseball ace Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) signed with the Houston Astros as an undrafted free agent on Wednesday afternoon. Scribner is the second Sacred heart player to sign with a Major League team, joining John Murphy (Seymour, CT), who was drafted in the 6th round of this year's draft by the New York Yankees.

John Murphy Selected by New York Yankees in MLB Draft
Fairfield, CT – With the 194th selection in the 6th round of this year’s Major League Baseball Draft, the New York Yankees selected Sacred Heart shortstop John Murphy (Seymour, CT). With the sixth round selection, Murphy becomes the highest draft pick in Sacred Heart history and becomes the seventh SHU ball player to be drafted under Head Coach Nick Giaquinto. The last Pioneer to be selected in the MLB draft was center fielder Mike Drowne, who was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2010. Murphy was the first Northeast Conference player to be picked in this year’s draft.

Three Pioneers Named All-New England
Fairfield, CT – Seniors Dave Boisture (Highland Mills, NY), Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT), and John Murphy (Seymour, CT) were named All-New England Tuesday, by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA). The three seniors, who were vital cogs on a Pioneer team that made it all the way to the Northeast Conference Championship, will now play in the NEIBA All-Star Game on Monday, June 3rd at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass.

SHU Baseball Falls to Bryant in NEC Championship Game
Lakewood, NJ – For the first time in three years, the Sacred Heart Pioneers fell short of a Northeast Conference Championship, falling to the Bryant Bulldogs, 8-0, in the NEC Championship game, Sunday afternoon at First Energy Park in Lakewood, New Jersey. Sacred Heart finishes the season with a record of 34-24. The 34 wins ties a program record set in 2011.

SHU Baseball Falls to Bryant, 6-3; Decisive Championship Game Sunday
Lakewood, NJ – The Sacred Heart Baseball team had a chance to win their third straight NEC Championship, but fell to Bryant, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, New Jersey. SHU and Bryant will play again tomorrow afternoon in a winner-take-all finale for a chance to play in the NCAA Tournament. The Pioneers are now 34-23 on the season.

Lakewood, NJ – The Sacred Heart baseball defeated the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, 8-7, Friday night to advance to their fifth straight NEC Championship in Lakewood, New Jersey. SHU improves to 34-22 on the season and is just one win shy of their third straight NEC Championship.

Lakewood, NJ - The Sacred Heart Pioneers will begin their quest for a third straight NEC Championship on Thursday afternoon against the Monmouth Hawks. Like the past two seasons, the Pioneers come into the tournament as the number two seed. The Pioneers seek their fourth NEC title, to go along with rings from the past two years and 2006.

Lakewood, NJ– For the third year in a row, senior Troy Scribner opens the NEC Championship with a complete game victory, this time a 7-1 win over the third seeded Monmouth Hawks at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, New Jersey. Sacred Heart gets their 33rd win of the season and advances to take on LIU Brooklyn Friday afternoon at 3:30.

Lakewood, NJ – A night before the Northeast Conference Baseball Championship kicks off in Lakewood, New Jersey, the Northeast Conference honored four Pioneers. Three Pioneers made the NEC first team; senior John Murphy (Seymour, CT), senior Dave Boisture (Highland Mills, NY), and junior Dan Perez (Seymour, CT). Senior Troy Scribner made the All-NEC second team.

Pioneers Finish Regular Season with Loss at Columbia
Manhattan, NY – The Sacred Heart Pioneers let up seven runs in the final two innings to fall to Columbia, 9-2, snapping the Pioneers’ 12 game win streak at Robertson Field in New York City. SHU finishes the regular season with a record of 32-22 overall and 23-9 in the Northeast Conference. The 32 regular season wins is the most in program history.

Bridgeport, CT – The Sacred Heart Pioneers scored four runs in the third inning en route to a 4-2 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles Friday afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. With the win, Sacred Heart ties the program record with their 12th consecutive victory. The Pioneers improve to 32-21 on the season. The 32 regular season wins is the most ever by the Pioneers.

Emmitsburg, MD – The Sacred Heart Pioneers scored six runs runs the first three innings on their way to a 9-6 series finale win over Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday afternoon at Straw Family Stadium. Sacred Heart swept the four game series against the Mountaineers and have now beaten them 16 straight times. Sacred Heart finishes their NEC schedule with a record of 23-9, after closing the season on an 8 game win streak.

Fairfield, CT – The Sacred Heart baseball team scored four runs in the ninth en route to a 7-5 win over cross-town rival Fairfiield on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field in Fairfield. Senior shortstop John Murphy’s single with the bases loaded would tie the game up at five in the ninth for SHU and a sac fly by Jesus Medina (New York, NY) would bring around the game winning run in the ninth. New Britain, CT – The Sacred Heart baseball team split a doubleheader Sunday afternoon against NEC rival Central Connecticut State. The Pioneers won the first game 2-1 before dropping game two 3-1. SHU beat the Blue Devils three out of four games for their third consecutive NEC series win. Sacred Heart is now 11-5 in the conference.

New Britain, CT – The Sacred Heart baseball team won two NEC games Saturday afternoon over NEC and in-state rival Central Connecticut State. SHU won game one 6-5, and then took game two 3-0 behind a complete game shutout from junior Nick Leiningen. With the two wins, the Pioneers improve to 10-4 in the NEC.

Hamden, CT - Sophomore Keaton Flint (Charlton, NY) homered twice as the Pioneers crushed the Quinnipiac Bobcats 19-1 in the final game of a four game series. After losing the opener of the series, the Pioneers outscored QU 33-1 in the final three to win their second NEC series in a row. Sacred Heart improves to 8-4 this season in the Northeast Conference.

Hamden, CT - Senior Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) threw a second consecutive complete game for Sacred Heart, but the Pioneers fell 4-1 at Quinnipiac Friday afternoon. Quinnipiac starting pitcher Derek Lamacchia also pitched a complete game, allowing only the lone run on seven SHU hits tom improve to 3-3 on the season. Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac now both sit at 5-4 in the Northeast Conference.

Bridgeport, CT – Head Coach Nick Giaquinto notched his 500th career victory Sunday afternoon as the Pioneers defeated the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, 9-7, at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Sacred Heart wins their first series of the season, winning three out of four games against LIU Brooklyn over the weekend. SHU improves their Northeast Conference record to 4-2 on the season.

SHU Baseball Splits with LIU Brooklyn
Bridgeport, CT – The Sacred Heart baseball team split their doubleheader with LIU Brooklyn Saturday afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. SHU lost a wild game one by a score of 9-8 before rebounding to take game two, 5-0. The Pioneers (7-12, 4-3) were up 6-0 after two innings in game one and 8-6 going into the final inning but could not hold on. In game two, Sacred Heart got another great pitching performance, this time from sophomore Jeff Stoddard who threw a complete game shutout for the Pioneers to notch his second win of the season.

Scribner Pitches Sacred Heart Past LIU Brooklyn
Bridgeport, CT – Senior right-hander Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) struck out a career high 14 en route to a 2-1 complete game victory over the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Scribner had LIU Brooklyn guessing all afternoon, notching his second win of the year and improved the Pioneers’ conference record to 3-2 on the season.

Pioneers Topped by Iona, 6-3
Bridgeport, CT – The Sacred Heart Pioneers lost a non-conference tilt with the Iona Gaels Wednesday afternoon by a score of 6-3 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Iona sophomore Mariano Rivera pitched well in relief, only allowing one unearned run in five innings of work to lock down the Pioneers and earn the win.

Pioneers Dropped by Wagner, 6-4
Bridgeport, CT – The Wagner Seahawks scored three runs in the first inning en route to a 6-4 win over Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon, salvaging a weekend split with the Pioneers. Sacred Heart (5-10) got three RBI from John Murphy but it was not enough as they begin conference play with a four game split.

Staten Island, NY – The Sacred Heart Baseball team split a double header with the Wagner Seahawks Saturday afternoon, dropping the first game, 5-2, before rebounding with a 3-1 win in game two at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

Pioneers Set for Four Game Series Against Wagner
Fairfield, CT – The Sacred Heart Baseball team opens up conference play this weekend, traveling to Staten Island, New York to take on the Wagner Seahawks in a four game series. The series was originally set to be played in Bridgeport but due to unplayable field conditions the Pioneers will travel to Staten Island instead. The Sunday game is still scheduled to be played at Harbor Yard.

Pioneers Open Conference Play with 8-1 Win over Wagner
Staten Island, NY – Senior John Murphy’s first inning two-run home run into the Hudson River set the tone as the Pioneers sunk the Seahawks of Wagner, 8-1, in Staten Island on Friday afternoon to open conference play. Senior Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) pitched well for the Pioneers to secure his first victory of the season. Scribner pitched seven innings, only allowing one run on six hits.

Fairfield, CT – Sacred Heart Baseball’s four game series against Wagner that was initially set to be played at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard for the Pioneers’ first home games of the season has been moved to Staten Island due to questionable field conditions. They are still hoping to play Sunday’s game in Bridgeport but that could change as well.

SHU Baseball Splits Doubleheader on Final Day of Frisch Invite
Bronx, NY – On the final day of the Frankie Frisch Invitational at Fordham University the SHU baseball team split a double header. SHU first lost 6-3 to the NJIT Highlanders but rebounded to knock off the host Fordham Rams, 9-1, to win two out of the three games at the Invitational. Sacred Heart was originally supposed to play Fordham yesterday but the game was postponed due to snowy conditions. With the split, Sacred Heart’s record goes to 3-8 on the season.

SHU Baseball Tops St. Peter’s, 7-2
Bronx, NY – The Sacred Heart Baseball team made it two wins in a row Friday night, defeating St. Peter’s,7-2, in the opening game of the Frisch Invite on the campus of Fordham University. Starting pitcher Kody Kerski (Waterbury, CT) notched the win for the Pioneers, pitching seven scoreless innings on just four hits and striking out five Peacocks. Sacred Heart is now 2-7 on the season.

Pioneers Set for Frisch Invitational at Fordham University
Fairfield, CT – The Sacred Heart Baseball team returns to the east coast to participate in the Frankie Frisch Invitational at Houlihan Field, on the campus of Fordham University. The Pioneers are coming off an eight game stretch over Spring Break down in Louisiana. Sacred Heart is looking to bounce back from a 1-7 start, including a loss at # 3 ranked LSU. As part of the Frisch Invite, the Pioneers will take on St. Peter’s on Friday, Fordham on Saturday, and wrap up the weekend against NJIT on Sunday.

Fairfield, CT - Sacred Heart Baseball's home opener against UCONN scheduled for Wednesday afternoon has been postponed due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 30th. Sacred Heart will now open their home schedule on Friday, March 22nd at 3 PM against Wagner.

Sacred Heart Falls Behind Early in 4-1 Loss at Nicholls
The Nicholls State Colonials scored three times in the first two innings and got eight strong innings from junior Taylor Byrd to beat Sacred Heart 4-1 Saturday night in game two of a three-game series. SHU senior shortstop John Murphy (Seymour, CT) went three-for-four and knocked in the lone Pioneer run in the loss.

SHU Baseball Loses Another Heartbreaker
Thibodaux, LA – For the second time in three games, the Pioneers lost on a walk off hit. This time, a base hit by Nicholls State right fielder Mike Barba in the bottom of the ninth inning took down the Pioneers, 3-2, Friday night at Ray E. Didier field. Sacred Heart rallied with two outs in the top of the ninth with two singles and two hit by pitches to tie the game up at two before falling in the bottom of the inning.

Gondek Homers, Pioneers Defeated by #3 LSU
Baton Rouge, LA – The Sacred Heart Baseball team was defeated the by the third ranked LSU Tigers, 10-2, at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. LSU scored six runs in the second inning and did not look back from there improving their record to 11-1. The Pioneers had a tough day in Baton Rouge, losing to Stephen F. Austin in 13 innings before this one. Sacred Heart is still looking for their first win of the season.

Sacred Heart Loses to Stephen F. Austin in 13 Innings
Baton Rouge, LA – The Sacred Heart Pioneers battled back from a three run deficit but fall to the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, 6-5, in a wild 13-inning affair at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Sacred Heart was able to tie the game up in the ninth inning but could not get on the board in the four extra innings, falling to 0-4 on the season.

SHU Baseball Falls 4-3 at UL Lafayette
Lafayette, LA - The Sacred Heart Baseball team squandered a 3-1 eighth inning lead, allowing the UL Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns to score three runs to defeat the Pioneers, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field. The Pioneers were swept in the three game series by the Ragin’ Cajuns to fall to 0-3 on the season. UL Lafayette improves to an impressive 11-2 on the season.

SHU Baseball Dropped by UL Lafayette, 8-2
Lafayette, LA – UL-Lafayette’s Caleb Adams hit three homeruns for the Ragin Cajuns as they defeat the Pioneers for the second straight day, 8-2. Junior pitcher Nick Leiningen gave up all three blasts and took the loss for the Pioneers, giving up 7 earned runs in 4.2 innings. Sacred Heart drops to 0-2 on the young season.

Pioneers Drop Season Opener at UL-Lafayette
Lafayette, LA – The Sacred Heart Baseball team dropped their season opener at Louisiana Lafayette, 4-2, Friday night in Lafayette, Louisiana. Sacred Heart was only able to muster three hits with Matt Chamello (Rossmoor, CA) hitting a 2-run homerun in the fifth inning for the Pioneers only runs. Senior John Murphy (Seymour, CT) notched the other two hits for the Pioneers.

Fairfield, Conn. – The Sacred Heart Baseball team begins its attempt for a third straight Northeast Conference Championship on Friday night at Louisiana Lafayette, beginning a ten-day stretch in Louisiana to start the 2012-13 campaign. Sacred Heart takes on the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns, Stephen F. Austin, LSU, and Nicholls State on their eight-game Spring Break trip to the Bayou.

Sacred Heart Baseball Selected to Finish Fourth in NEC
Fairfield, CT- The two-time defending Northeast Conference (NEC) Champion Sacred Heart baseball team has been selected to finish fourth in this year’s preseason coaches' poll. The Pioneers received one first place vote. The defending NEC regular season champion Bryant Bulldogs have been determined as the early favorite, receiving 4 of 9 first place votes. Central Connecticut State was given three first place votes, putting the Blue Devils in the second spot. Monmouth received the only other first place vote, earning the Hawks the third spot.

Fairfield, CT – Senior shortstop John Murphy (Seymour, CT) and Assistant Coach Wayne Mazzoni were highlighted in College Baseball Insider’s (CBI) annual preview of the Northeast Conference. CBI surveyed the coaches of the Northeast Conference to compile a preview for the 2013 baseball season.
