FAIRFIELD, CONN. (April 1, 2014)—Eleven Pioneers were honored by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association for their work in the classroom. Margaret Vogel (S. Acworth, N.H.) topped the list being named to the Academic first team, while Allison Buccos (East Moriches, N.Y.) was named to the Academic second team. Katie Gray (Colchester, Vt.) and Emma Sands (Hopkinton, Mass.) landed on Academic Team Honorable Mention.
Buccos and Sands also made the NCEA Honor Roll along with Katherine Byrne (Annandale, Va.), Natalie Cafasso (Derby, Conn.), Brianna Formicola (Montvale, N.J.), Haley Mena (Huntington, N.Y.), Star Rota (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Sara Scorpa (Lanesboro, Mass.), Vogel and Abigail Williams (Dover Plains, N.Y.).
To qualify for the Academic second team, a rider must have competed in 60 percent of her team's meets, while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.25. To earn honorable mention Academic honors, a rider must have participated in 50 percent of her team's meets and must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
The NCEA Academic Honor Roll recognizes the top academic student-athletes who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25.
