Alfieri Hold Onto the Lead as Pioneers Finish Fourth at Connecticut College

GALES FERRY, CONN. (February 1, 2014)—Jocelyn Alfieri (Darien, Conn.) qualified for the Regional Championship in Open Flat as the Sacred Heart equestrian team finished fourth at the IHSA Hunt Seat competition hosted by Connecticut College. Finishing third in both Open Fences and Open Flat as the Pioneers Alfieri holds onto her lead as the high point open rider, and the Pioneers hold on to first place in Region 5.

Sacred Heart's only blue ribbon of the day was from the day's final rider, Star Rota (Brooklyn, N.Y.) showing in Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter.

Accounting for one of SHU's four second place finishes, Cortney Sevigny (Thompson, Conn.) earned the ribbon her first time competing in Intermediate Flat. The junior moved up from Novice at the end of last semester. Sara Scorpa also snagged a second place finish competing in Novice Flat after moving up from Walk/Trot/Center at the beginning of the season.

Gabriella Tauro (East Lyme, Conn.) and Hayley Mena (Huntington, N.Y.) also finished second in the Intermediate Flat and Novice Fences respectively. Tauro also finished sixth in Intermediate Fences.

The Pioneers compete again this Saturday at Wesleyan.
