South Hadley, Mass. (November 9, 2013)—Despite finishing fourth at the Mt. Holyoke College IHSA Z1.5 in Hadley, Mass. this Saturday, the Sacred Heart equestrian team remains in second position in overall team points with 55. Noelle Bianculli (Ramsey, N.J.) continued her winning streak taking first in Intermediate Horsemanship. Emma Sands (Hopkinton, Mass.) also took first in the event.
After finishing fourth in Open Horsemanship and fifth in Open Reining, Katie Gray (Colcester, Vt.) moved into second place as Open High Point Rider and has a chance to represent Zone 1.5 at IHSA National Championship. Emily Murch of host-school Mt. Holyoke is the only rider ranked higher.
The Pioneers finished the competition with four second place finishes. In her first time competing in western, Melissa Yacubich (Shoreham, N.Y.) took second in Novice Horsemanship, while Ashley Alaimo (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Margaret Vogel (South Acworth, N.H.) placed second in Advanced Horsemanship. Allison Buccos (East Moriches, N.Y.) claimed final second place finish in the Intermediate Horsemanship.
Sara Ann Scorpa (Lanesboro, Mass.) was the only Pioneer to finish third. She did so in the Novice Horsemanship. Hayley Mena (Huntington, N.Y.) finished fourth in Intermediate Horsemanship in her first ever western competition. Riley Boath also finished fourth in the Walk/Jog.
Sacred Heart's next western competition is on November 24 at UMass.
