Pioneers Finish Third at Wesleyan IHSA Z2R5
HEBRON, CONN. (November 9, 2013)—Senior Jocelyn Alfieri (Darien, Conn.) continues to have a narrow lead over Fairfield U's Irene Peluso in the hunt for the High Point Open Rider title and a chance to represent Region 5 at IHSA National Championship after taking second in the Open Flat and fourth in Open Fences Saturday at Windcrest Farm in Hebron, Conn. The Sacred Heart equestrian team came in third at the Wesleyan University IHSA Z2R5 with three riders claiming first place finishes.
Natalie Cafasso (Derby, Conn.), Brianna Formicola (Montvale, N.J.) and Gabriella Tauro (East Lyme, Conn.) accounted for the three firsts. Cafasso claimed the win in Novice Fences, and Formicola was first in Walk/Trot, while Tauro was first in Intermediate Fences for her first collegiate win. Tauro also finished third in Intermediate Fences, and Cafasso took second in Novice Flat.
Taylor DiBella (Holmdel, N.J.) finished second in Intermediate Flat. Katherine Byrne (Annandale, Va.) and Courtney Sevigny (Thompson, Conn.) snagged Sacred Heart's two other third place finishes in the Novice Flat and Intermediate Fences. Byrne also took fourth in Novice Fences.
In her collegiate debut, Star Rota (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished fourth in Walk/Trot/Canter. Abigail Williams (Dover Plains, N.Y.) also finished fourth in the Novice Flat. Danielle Belson (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) rounded out the SHU competitors finishing sixth in Walk/Trot/Canter.
The team is back in action this Saturday at UConn.
