Pioneers Reserve High Point Team; Jocelyn Alfieri Leads the Region

GALES FERRY, CONN. (October 26, 2013)—The Sacred Heart equestrian team was the Reserve High Point Team finishing just two points behind host-school Fairfield University, 36-34, at the Mystic Valley Hunt Club this weekend.

Jocelyn Alfieri (Darien, Conn.), who claimed first place in Open Fences and fifth in Open Flat, is currently leading the region after four IHSA Hunt Seat competitions. The High Point Open Rider for each of the IHSA Regions will represent their respective region at the IHSA National Champion in the coveted Cacchione Cup.

Katherine Byrne (Annandale, Va.), Katie Gray (Colchester, Vt.) and Natalie Cafasso (Derby, Conn.) accounted for the Pioneers' other three first place finishes in Novice Fences, Intermediate Flat and Novice Flat respectively. Byrne also took second in Novice Flat.

Alison Brosky (Manhassett, N.Y.) and Brianna Formicola (Montvale, N.J.) also snagged second place in Intermediate Fences and Walk/Trot respectively, while Emma Sands (Hopkinton, Mass.) placed second in Novice Fences and third in Novice Flat.

Other third place finishes were: Taylor DiBella (Holmdel, N.J.) in Intermediate Flat and Abigail Williams (Dover Plains, N.Y.) in Novice Fences. Sacred Heart's other top 10 finishes came from Jessica Chaloux (Newtown, Conn.) who took fourth in Walk/Trot/Canter, Gabriella Tauro (East Lyme, Conn.) who finished fifth in Intermediate Fences and Allison Buccos (East Moriches, N.Y.) who finished fifth in Open Flat and sixth in Open Fences.
