This Week in Pioneer Sports

Softball
The Pioneers will play Quinnipiac on Thursday, April 24th at 3:00 p.m., a doubleheader against conference opponent Saint Francis on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., and will end the weekend off at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

 

Baseball
The Sacred Heart baseball team will play cross-town rival Fairfield on Wednesday, April 23rd at 3:30 p.m. The Pioneers struggled in their last series against conference opponent Mount St. Mary’s, dropping three out of the four games, only winning the series opener. In their sole win, pitcher Kody Kerski (Waterbury, CT) pitched eight scoreless innings, striking out nine in a pitching duel. The Pioneers managed to score four runs in the eighth, cementing the 4-0 victory. The Pioneers look to get back on track against Fairfield while also playing a four game series against LIU Brooklyn. The first game will be on Friday, April 25th at 3:00 p.m. with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., with the series closer on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

 

Men’s Track and Field
The Sacred Heart men’s track and field team will compete at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The meet will begin on Thursday, April 24th and end on Saturday, April 26th.  The Pioneers last competed at the Mark Young Yale Track & Field Invitational on Saturday, April 19th, finishing 5th out of 11 teams. Two of the top performers included Marc Troiani (Valhalla, N.Y.) who won the shot put with a throw of 54'9.5" and Gregory Hazell (Airmont, N.Y.) who placed second in the long jump with a leap of 22'2.25". The Pioneers will also compete at the Yale University Springtime Invitational on Sunday, April 27th at 10:00 a.m.

 

Women’s Track and Field
 The Sacred Heart women’s track and field team will compete at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Freshman Mareena DiMilian (Claryville, N.Y) placed second in the hammer throw (165'1"). The Pioneers will also compete at the Yale University Springtime Invitational on Sunday, April 27th at 10:00 a.m.

 

Women’s Golf
The Sacred Heart women’s golf team will conclude the season competing at the Northeast Conference Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida starting Friday, April 25th and ending Sunday, April 27th.  The Pioneers last competed on April 6th at the Lady Pirate Invitational, finishing last out of seventeen teams. Stephanie Lowe (Cedar Park, TX) had the Pioneers' lowest score on that day, carding a nine-over 81. The Pioneers hope to end the season off strong at the NEC Championships after struggling in their last tournament.

 

Women’s Lacrosse
The Sacred Heart women’s lacrosse team will travel to play conference opponent CCSU on Friday, April 25th at 4:00 p.m. The Pioneers are coming off a strong 16-8 win against LIU Brooklyn last Friday. Shelby Vaccaro (Brightwaters, N.Y.) led the team with five goals while Jenna Liljeberg (Wrentham, MA) had three assist. Sacred Heart will end the season off at Bryant on Sunday, April 27th at 1:00 p.m.

 

Women’s Rowing
 The Sacred Heart women’s rowing team will compete at the MAAC Championships on Saturday, April 26th and Sunday, April 27th. The Pioneers last competed at the Spring Metropolitan Regatta back on April 12th. Jaclyn Smith (Williston Park, N.Y.) and Catherine Lott (Roxbury, CT) won the women's varsity 2 race, covering the 2000 meter course in 9:05. Sacred Heart looks to carry some of that momentum into the MAAC Championships.
