Sacred Heart University announced Tuesday that Mike Morrison has been named the Director of Athletic Development. In this role, he will focus on creating and nurturing giving opportunities for athletic capital projects and raise funds to support the operations of Sacred Heart's Division I athletic program.
"Bobby (Valentine) and I are extremely excited to welcome Mike to the SHU family," said Deputy Director of Athletics Brad Hurlbut. "He has a tremendous track record of success in development at the highest level of Division I athletics. Mike will play a major role in continuing our department's impressive fundraising growth."
"Mike has an excellent pedigree in this profession and has shown the ability to develop relationships that benefit the programs for which he works," said Executive Director of University Advancement Nick Wormley. "I am confident that he will be able to continue that practice with our athletic programs.
Morrison comes to SHU after 11 years as a member of the Athletic Development team at the University of Connecticut, serving as the Senior Director of Major Gifts since January 2014. During his tenure at UConn, he directed capital projects for baseball, men's and women's soccer and softball.

A 2000 graduate of UConn, Morrison began his professional career as an Athletic Development Graduate Assistant at UConn in January 2000. Following his graduation with a Master's in Education in May 2002, he did a yearlong internship with the Athletic Development staff at Boston College. Following that, Morrison joined became the Assistant Director of the Lobo Club at the University of New Mexico before being named the Assistant Director of Athletics for Development at Rhode Island College in October 2004. He returned to UConn in July 2006 as the Associate Director of Athletic Development and served the University in a variety of roles over 11 years.
SHU Athletics is a member of the Northeast Conference, a 10-instutition NCAA Division I conference. The Pioneers have won a conference best seven Brenda Weare Commissioner's Cups. The Pioneers have captured back-to-back triple crowns, claiming the Commissioner's Cup, the NEC Institutional Academic Award and NEC Building Communities Award the past two seasons; the first school in conference history to achieve that feat. SHU student-athletes posted a 3.35 department GPA in the Spring 2017 semester, marking the 18th consecutive semester that Pioneer student-athletes have combined for a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
