Fairfield, CT.- Former Sacred Heart Captain, Amie Varano has signed a professional hockey contract with KMH Budapest in Hungary. Amie and her team will be playing in the EWHL (Elite Women's Hockey League) in Europe which consists of teams in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Italy Kazakhstan, and Slovakia.
"I am extremely happy for Amie, and very proud of her," head coach Tom O'Malley said. "Amie has always worked very hard, and it is great that all of her efforts both in the classroom, and on the ice have helped her earn this great opportunity. I know Amie will take this next step, and continue elevate her game at the pro level, all the while continuing to make us all proud of her here at SHU."
Varano saw action in all 28 games in her freshman season, totaling five points on three goals and two assists. She again appeared in all 25 games for the Pioneers in 2014 and 2015 for the third season in a row. In her four seasons at Sacred Heart, Varano played 108 games, scoring 11 goals and 25 assists, totalling 36 points, from defense.
