Sacred Heart University Executive Director of Athletics Bobby Valentine has announced three promotions within the administrative staff in the Department of Athletics.
Chris O'Connor has been elevated to Senior Associate Director of Athletics/External Affairs from Associate Director of Athletics/External Affairs; Tammy Petrucelli from Director of Academic Services and Student Development to Assistant Director of Athletics/Academic Services and Student Development; Chris Fee from Head Strength & Conditioning Coach to Assistant Director of Athletics/Strength and Conditioning.
"We are fortunate to have an outstanding staff that works diligently on behalf of our student-athletes and University," said Valentine. "I am pleased to be able to recognize the dedication and hard work of these staff members."
O'Connor oversees Athletic Communications, Marketing, Ticketing, Promotions and Game Operations. During his tenure at SHU he has led a redesign of the athletics website, implemented a new ticketing system and the creation of an athletic branding plan. O'Connor is the program administrator for the women's lacrosse and men's and women's golf programs. He was named to the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Rules Committee, beginning his term in August 2016 and is the NEC conference representative to NACMA.
Fee is the first strength and conditioning coach in program history. He has built a staff of six that creates and implements strength and conditioning programs for all 32 varsity programs, with a focus on injury reduction and athletic performance. Under his tutelage, eight Pioneer student-athletes were named National Strength and Conditioning Association All-America last year.
Petrucelli oversees the Pioneers Academic Services and Student Development office. Pioneer student-athletes have earned back-to-back NEC Academic Institutional Academic Awards and enjoyed the newly opened Academic Center. Petrucelli aided in the implementation of the pilot program for In-Season priority class registration, as well as creation of the 'Playbook for Success', a student-athlete guide for freshman year achievement. She serves as the team administrator for the field hockey and swimming and diving programs.
