SHU Announces New Staff Hirings for 2016

Fairfield, CONN--The Sacred Heart University Department of Athletics welcomes several new staff members to the Athletic Training, Strength & Conditioning and External Affairs departments for the 2016-17 school year.

Jessica Trapp, Michael Stant and Kevin Gavin joined the SHU athletic training staff in August of 2016. Trapp and Stant will serve as graduate assistants and Gavin will serve as the intern athletic trainer with the Pioneers athletic training staff. 

Trapp comes to the Pioneers after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training this past May. During her time in Madison, she worked as an athletic trainer at James Madison High School and interned with five of the Badger's Big Ten athletic teams.

Stant, arrives to SHU from the University of Delaware, where he also graduated this past May with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. As an undergrad, Stant assisted with the Blue Hen's football and men's lacrosse teams. He also spent the summer of 2014 as an intern with the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League.

Gavin, a native of Ballinasloe, Galway, Ireland, graduated in May with a degree in Athletic and Rehabilitation Therapy from Athlone Institute of Technology. He spent his clinical rotations working with the Ballinasloe Rugby Club and St. Peter's Soccer club.

Head Strength & Conditioning coach Chris Fee welcomed Matt Rodriquez, James Pasquin and Mariette Martinez to the Strength & Conditioning staff this month. They will serve as graduate assistants this year.

Rodriguez interned as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Pennsylvania and was a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Top Speed Performance School in King of Prussia, PA. The New Jersey local, graduated from Montclair State University with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.

Pasquin is a Springfield, Mass. native and recent graduate of Springfield College with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Exercise Science and a Minor in Philosophy. He has gained strength and conditioning experience through internships at Raritan High School, the University of Michigan, Springfield College and The Citadel.

Martinez has previously interned with the Strength and Conditioning department at Sacred Heart and her alma mater, Limestone College. She also has coaching experience with Gaffney High School. She is originally from East Stroudsburg, Pa. and graduated in 2015 from Limestone College with a Bachelor of Science in Strength and Conditioning and minor in Coaching.

The Pioneers External Affairs department introduces Brian Duane, Sam Amatuzzo, Cody Sullivan, and Alex Barton to their staff for the 2016-17 academic year.

Duane joins the Pioneers staff as a Graduate Assistant pursuing his Master's in Communication. He comes to SHU after spending last year as an athletic communications intern at Iona College. Duane, a Westchester County, N.Y. native, graduated from York College of Pennsylvania in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations.

Amatuzzo, a Mamaroneck, N.Y. native joins the Athletic Communications Office as an Intern, also pursuing her Master's Degree in Sports Communication and Media. Prior to SHU, Amatuzzo received a Bachelor's degree in Film-Video from Penn State University, where she also interned with Penn State Athletics as a videographer.

Sullivan joins the Athletic Communications Office as an Intern. Sullivan, from Camden, N.Y. received his Bachelor's in Business Administration from Alma College in Michigan. Prior to joining the Pioneers, Sullivan worked with Alma College Athletics and was also a letterman on the Scots wrestling team from 2013-15.

Barton, a Seymour, Conn. native will serve in the role of Athletics Operations and Setup. Barton was an intern with the Pioneers in External Affairs for his spring semester in 2016. Prior to SHU, he served as stadium operations intern with the Bridgeport Bluefish in 2014. Barton received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from Springfield College in 2016.
