Brad Hurlbut has been named the Deputy Director of Athletics at Sacred Heart University. Hurlbut joins the Pioneer family after spending last year at the West Coast Conference and the previous 17 years at Northwestern University. He will work directly with Executive Director of Athletics Bobby Valentine.
"This is an exciting time for our athletic program and the addition of Brad to our staff is another sign of the commitment to excellence here at Sacred Heart University," commented Valentine. "His wealth of experience and knowledge in collegiate athletics will be a benefit to me and our department as we continue to build our championship program."
Hurlbut joined the West Coast Conference in September 2012 as the Senior Associate Commissioner for External Relations. During his time at the WCC, he was instrumental in the development of the conference's digital network, while overseeing the WCC Network for men's basketball. Additionally, Hurlbut served as tournament manager of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Second and Third Rounds in San Jose, and oversaw the management of the WCC basketball championships in Las Vegas as well as the conference's first neutral site baseball championship in Stockton, Calif.
For the previous 17 years, prior to joining the WCC, Hurlbut served as a member of the executive staff at Northwestern University, most recently as the Senior Associate Athletics Director. Highlights of his tenure included oversight of the scheduling process for men's basketball, managing numerous NCAA and Big Ten championships, and representing Northwestern on the Big Ten Conference's Administrator Council and co-chairing the Sport Management Committee. Hurlbut was also heavily involved in the department's strategic planning, event management, alumni relations, and facilities master planning and major capital projects. In addition, he served on the University's and athletics department strategic planning committees and the President's inauguration committee. Over the course of his time in Evanston, Hurlbut supervised nine sports including men's and women's basketball, football, men's and women's golf, field hockey, men's and women's tennis and women's volleyball.
During his time at Northwestern, Hurlbut has also served as the Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs and the Director of Media Services. Prior to his tenure at Northwestern, Hurlbut was the Director of Athletics Communications at the University of Pennsylvania as well as a sports information assistant at The George Washington University. He has also worked in the private sector as the public relations manager for Footwear Industries of America and as a policy analyst at Meridian Corporation.
